At UniCourt, we’re continually working to improve our application and APIs to make legal data more organized, accessible, and useful. In that spirit, we’re happy to share new updates to our website with the release of a series of new API pages, features pages, and our new and improved court coverage page.
Legal Data API
Accessing court records from hundreds of databases on a regular basis in an attempt to stay up to date on the latest litigation developments can be a nightmare. Simply gathering and updating the necessary data requires a serious workforce. Not to mention, collecting court data isn’t enough: courts classify cases differently from jurisdiction to jurisdiction with their own taxonomies and nomenclature, making court data unstructured and messy. This means you have to use unreliable data without common data standards, or hire a team of data scientists to clean up your data before it can be used.
At UniCourt, our team of engineers have created a sophisticated platform that automates the aggregation of data from hundreds of state and federal (PACER) courts nationwide. We then organize and structure that data so that it is available for real-time, bulk downloads through our Legal Data APIs. Through our AI-powered entity normalization process, we use public data sets to identify the real-world entities involved in litigation and enrich that data with those other data sets to provide users a more complete picture of the parties and entities they’re interested in.
Our Legal Data as a Service (LDaaS) via our APIs provides a range of industries, from law firms and legal departments, to finance, insurance, investigations, real estate, and news media with bulk access to the data they need for business development, analytics, underwriting, case research, background checks, machine learning models, process automation, and many other unique cases.
Court Data API
UniCourt simplifies access to structured court records via our Court Data API. This API allows users to search court cases, obtain real-time alerts with webhooks, streamline account management efforts, and gain bulk access to normalized court data. Our Court Data API easily integrates state and federal court records directly into your internal matter management systems, CRMs, and other applications, so you can access the docket entries, court documents, and case details you need on relevant parties, attorneys, law firms, and judges. Anything you can do in our app can be done with our Court Data API, including narrowing down your search results with our jurisdiction, case type, and case status filters.
Attorney Data API
Leveraging our entity normalization, we provide you with API access to attorney data that’s been connected to court records, bar records, business records, and other public records. Our AI technology identifies and collects attorney name variants caused by misspellings and name formatting issues across court records and combines them with other data points from public records, so we can establish who the real-world lawyers are in court cases. This helps avoid faulty data that leads to skewed analytics reports, missed opportunities, and bad business decisions.
Law Firm Data API
UniCourt provides enriched legal data on law firms via our Law Firm Data APIs. As with our Attorney Data APIs, our AI technology locates and gathers countless variations of law firm names contained in court data and combines them with bar data, business data, and other public data sets to identify the real-world entities involved in litigation. Our law firm entity normalization protects against making business decisions based on faulty data, and it allows you to quickly search for and download all of the litigation involving particular law firms for business development, competitive intelligence, analytics, legal research, and much more.
Party Data API
Our Party Data APIs provide easy, bulk access to structured and standardized data on the corporations and businesses involved in litigation. We connect parties to business records, Secretary of State records, and other public records through our entity normalization process. Through this process, we identify real-world business entities connected to court cases and provide API access to that data, so you can delve deeper into a company’s litigation and see all of the cases involving its subsidiaries and connected affiliates.
Judge Data API
Much like our other APIs, our Judge Data APIs utilize the same entity normalization to connect judges to cases on which they’ve ruled, orders and opinions they’ve issued, and the parties, attorneys, and firms who have appeared in their courtrooms. We identify and aggregate the multitude of name variations and spellings for judges in court records and tie them to bar data, judicial data, and other public records to provide a richer understanding of who particular judges are. This enables you to develop your own insightful judicial analytics reporting and helps you uncover new data points you can use to analyze judges and make decisions about how to proceed in litigation they’re presiding over.
Case Research
One Portal to Search Court Records
We provide attorneys, businesses, and consumers with top-of-the-line case research tools for streamlining real-time access to court records. This includes user-friendly search tools, on-demand document downloads, case exports and sharing, and our Court Data APIs. The court records contained in our legal database have been enriched and enhanced through our AI-powered entity normalization, and our intuitive search feature allows you to easily search for the court cases, docket entries, and litigation events you need to find for your case research and to power your business development and intelligence. UniCourt also provides unlimited free searches of court records and court data in our CrowdSourced Library™ without hidden fees or gatekeeping paywalls.
Court Document Downloads
With UniCourt, you can download court documents on-demand, so you never have to login to PACER again or keep bouncing back and forth between multiple state court government databases just to get the documents you need. You can also save even more time and increase your productivity by removing the need to manually download swaths of new court documents filed in cases you’re tracking with our auto-document download feature. Anytime a new court document becomes available in a case you’re tracking, we’ll download it for you and send you a real-time notification as soon as it’s available. Even more, UniCourt provides you with access to millions of free court documents through our CrowdSourced Library™, which you can download in bulk using our Court Data API.
Case Exports and Case Sharing
Our case export feature allows you to quickly download the case details and metadata from your search results into a .CSV file that includes direct hyperlinks to each case in our application, so you can easily drill down into notable cases. This gives you the quick, high-level overview you need to identify new business opportunities, gain insights on cases, and manage risk in your litigation portfolio. You can also create public case pages that can be shared openly online and on social media, and use our shared folder feature to seamlessly share cases, documents, and other information with clients and colleagues.
Case Tracking
Real-Time Case Alerts
Through intelligent automation, we simplify the process of tracking cases across state and federal (PACER) courts, so you can get the case updates you need in real-time without the hassle of scouring hundreds of court databases everyday. Our case tracking features ensure you will never miss a new filing or critical docket update that occurs. You can also track thousands of cases all at once using our entity tracking solutions. This allows you to effortlessly manage the litigation involving your clients and business entities, law firms, and attorneys of interest, while also substantially reducing your recurring costs from PACER fees.

Our Court Data API automates your data entry tasks associated with litigation management, and streamlines your work processes to reduce your overhead costs and eliminate human error inherent in data entry. By connecting your applications, matter management systems, and CRMs with our APIs, you can seamlessly transfer the data you need and build workflows to automate your internal processes.
Court Coverage
UniCourt’s court data coverage spans hundreds of state and federal (PACER) courts, and with our new coverage map, you can quickly determine whether we have the exact court data you need. For each individual court, we give you easily digestible information on the number of cases we have for that court from the past 30 days, the total number of cases for that court overall, the total number documents, and whether or not we provide access to civil, criminal, family, and probate cases.
We want you to know exactly what court data and documents are available in UniCourt, which is why we’ve added the ability for you to download an excel file detailing our complete state court coverage and our federal court coverage. And if you don’t see the courts you’re looking for, please reach out to us and submit a request for us to onboard the court data you need. We add new courts every month based on popular demand, and would love to hear from you on which courts we should add to our court onboarding roadmap.
