Jane Doe v. Calvin Broadus et al

Case Summary

On February 9, 2022, Jane Doe (“Plaintiff”), represented by Matt Evan Orellana Finkelberg of Derek Smith Law Group PLLC, filed a personal injury lawsuit against Calvin Broadus, (“Snoop Dogg”); Donald Campbell (“Bishop Don Magic Juan”); Gerber & Co, Inc.; The Broadus Collection, LLC; Casa Verde Capital, LLC; and others, (together, “Defendants”), seeking damages with pre- and post-judgement interest for the Defendants’ alleged sexual assault administered on Plaintiff. This case was filed in U.S. District Court in the Central District of California with Judge Alka Sagar and Judge George H. Wu presiding.

In her complaint, the Plaintiff alleged that, “Plaintiff was and is a female residing in the State of California. Defendants Snoop Dogg and Campbell employed Plaintiff as a dancer on stage as part of their concerts. Plaintiff received gifts from Defendants and sponsors in exchange for performing on stage and dancing with them at their shows. Around May 29, 2013, Plaintiff Jane Doe and her friend attended one of Defendant Snoop Dogg’s shows at Club Heat Ultra Lounge, a night club in Anaheim, CA. While at the show Plaintiff and her friend entered the VIP room where they ran into Defendant Campbell. That night, Campbell invited Plaintiff and Plaintiff’s friend to go back to Defendant Snoop Dogg’s studio with Defendants. Plaintiff and Plaintiff’s friend agreed and went with Campbell and Snoop Dogg.”

The Plaintiff further alleged that, “Plaintiff left with Defendant CAMPBELL and fell asleep in the car. When Plaintiff awoke, Plaintiff was still in the car with Defendant Campbell. After a short time, Plaintiff and Campbell arrived at Campbell’s home despite Plaintiff’s request that she be dropped off at her home. Plaintiff was exhausted and fell asleep at Campbell’s home.  Around 4:00 AM the next morning, Plaintiff awoke to Defendant CAMPBELL turning Plaintiff to face Defendant CAMPBELL.”

The Plaintiff also alleged that, “Defendant CAMPBELL removed his penis from his pants and forced his penis in Plaintiff’s face. Defendant CAMPBELL repeatedly shoved his penis into Plaintiff’s mouth. Defendant CAMPBELL’s penis was flaccid as he was forcing his penis into Plaintiff’s mouth. After some time, Defendant CAMPBELL turned away from Plaintiff leaving her alone. Defendant CAMPBELL sexually harassed, sexually assaulted, and sexually battered Plaintiff.”

There are three claims for relief laid down by the Plaintiff. The claims alleged deal with the violation of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (Tvpa), for Sexual Battery and for Sexual Assault.  The Plaintiff alleged that Defendants intended to inflict a harmful or offensive conduct against Plaintiff and intended to cause Plaintiff to fear such contact.

In her prayer for relief, the Plaintiff requested the Court for general, compensatory, and/or special damages in an amount according to proof for Plaintiff’s injuries, mental and/or emotional distress, medical expenses, actual financial losses, consequential financial losses, incidental financial losses, loss of past and future earnings, loss of salary and benefits, and all damages with punitive damages, as allowed by law, that will sufficiently punish, and deter future conduct by Defendants along with pre- and post-judgement interest and such further relief as the Court may deem just and proper.
