The court begins by asking counsel if a private investigator had been hired to attempt to locate Ms. Lau. Mr. Long reports that at this point, his client does not have the means financially to pay for a full investigation. Counsel confirms that the staff at his firm have done a preliminary investigation and that no one has seen or heard from Ms. Lau since 2012. The court then asks counsel regarding the petitioner's father. Counsel reports that his client's father has not had contact with family in several decades. The court then summarizes probate code 12401 and advises counsel that it is inclined to tentatively grant the petition. The Petition to Establish Fact of Death is submitted. Judge: Hon. Joseph Quinn. Clerk: Robert Woods. Deputy: R. Rosado. Not reported.; Location: CIVIC CENTER COURTHOUSE ROOM 204; Judge Name: JOSEPH M. QUINN

In Dept 204 MINI MINUTES: Appearances: Nathan Long appeared by zoom for Petitioner. In response to the Court's questions, Mr. Long stated that Ms. Lau was a restaurant owner at the time she went missing, that they do not know when she sold the restaurant and that the Son has a very tenuous relationship with the Mother. Mr. Long also stated that the Son moved out when he became an adult and moved back in a year before she disappeared, that the Son is now forty, that they don't know if she sold the restaurant, or walked away from it, and that she hadn't been operating the restaurant for several before disappearing. In addition, Mr. Long stated that he was not familiar with Ty Mann and then stated that he believes Mr. Mann is his Client's father, that he has contacted the police to request documents, that they have stone walled, that he doesn't seem like anyone is working on it and that he will continue to try and get copies of the affidavit in support of the police search warrant of the home. Furthermore, Mr. Long stated that he does not know what the police seized and that it looks like they took bills and bank statements. The Court stated that it would like to see Ms. Lau's passport and that it seems equally likely that Ms. Lau just took off somewhere. Mr. Long stated that he agrees, but it doesn't make as to why she would leave the property she owned on her own, why she did not keep up with the bills and why she would let the property go into foreclosure. Mr. Long also stated that the bills were on auto pay, so the accounts were drawn down, that Ms. Lau also has a property in Taiwan and the same thing has happened, and that she has abandoned the property. The Court stated that it needs more information regarding the eight bank accounts, and that it wants notice to be given to Mr. Mann, Mr. Young and Ms. Galey. Mr. Long stated that he will try to obtain the bank records, but he does not know if the banks will cooperate, that he was told by his Client that Ms. Lau is the only person who had an interest in the restaurant, that a Court order is needed because there is a safe deposit box, that they are getting calls from Taiwan regarding the property and they need a death certificate to deal with it. The Court stated that it wants more information on the restaurant such as what it was called, where it was located, who else had an ownership and when she divested herself in that interest. The Court also wants to see all of the affidavits in support of the police searches, the warrants and the police reports. The Petition to Establish Fact of Death is continued to March 9, 2021 at 9:00 a.m., in Dept. 204. Mr. Long is to file any documents one week before the hearing. Judge: Joseph M. Quinn. Clerk: Rosie Noguera. Deputy: D. Johnson. Not reported.; Location: CIVIC CENTER COURTHOUSE ROOM 204; Judge Name: JOSEPH M. QUINN
