UniCourt Employee Spotlight with Simone Spencer, VP of Marketing
on Topics: Interviews
UniCourt’s growth from 2022 isn’t showing any signs of slowing with some fabulous new hires in the first months of the year to kick off 2023, and some exciting big announcements close on the horizon in March.
After a terrific UniCourt Employee Spotlight with our Business Development Representative, Sarah Park, we’re thrilled to share the second interview in our ongoing series with UniCourt’s VP of Marketing, Simone Spencer.
Simone has an impressive, international career, having worked in six different countries in the technology and software space, and in a number of complimentary roles and departments, including product, marketing, sales, and customer success. We’re delighted to have Simone leading the charge on UniCourt’s marketing efforts, and we hope you enjoy learning from her experience and expertise as much as we did!
UniCourt: Tell us your story. What is your background, and what led you to what you are doing now?
Simone Spencer: My career journey began with the completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Australia. My first ‘real job’ was performing customer support for printers, scanners, and laptops for Hewlett-Packard. Working in this space uncovered my passion for software and leading-edge technology.
I then kicked off what has become a truly international career with a Product Management role working on software for LC/GC/ICPMS equipment in Germany. This was followed by LIMS consulting for pharmaceutical firms throughout Asia Pacific that taught me the importance of quality data in delivering effective client solutions. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to live and work in six different countries around the globe.
Having worked across Sales, Product, Customer Success, and Marketing, as well as with companies spanning in size from small rapid growth startups to large enterprise organizations, I have developed a unique skill set and broad experience base. My super power is being able to solve problems through a strategic lens combining Product, Customer Satisfaction, Technology, and Marketing knowledge.
UC: What’s an interesting fact about yourself?
SS: I have a photographic memory. This serves me very well when studying or learning new topics, but can be infuriating in situations such as misplacing my car keys. I will know that I placed my keys on a highly polished white surface and was wearing a blue dress, but where is that highly polished white surface?
UC: What do you like most about working at UniCourt?
SS: I have learned over many years that it is the people that you work with on a daily basis that make a regular day awesome. At UniCourt I have been blessed with the opportunity to surround myself with intelligent, capable, and innovative colleagues that make achieving great outcomes fun.
UC: What do you see as the most fascinating use of UniCourt’s data?
SS: I get excited about the endless possibilities of combining clients’ internal data with real-time external court record data. Leveraging court records such as judge and court data to build an effective case strategy and more accurately forecast future case outcomes is fascinating to me.
UC: How do you see UniCourt’s Enterprise APIs impacting law firms in the future?
SS: I envision greater adoption of external data as law firms increasingly understand the competitive advantage possible and realize that you don’t need an in-house technology team, but can instead lean into the expertise of an experienced API integration partner to deliver these benefits.
UC: You previously worked in a number of marketing roles for global enterprises, such as Intel Security, Symantec Corporation, Malwarebytes, and most recently Demyst Data. From a marketing perspective, how important is access to reliable, actionable data for company growth? Through that lens, how should law firms look at legal data as a marketing tool for business development?
SS: From a marketing viewpoint, high-quality, accurate data is mandatory for employee and business efficiency and it enables the creation of the most impactful solutions for business challenges. Throughout my career, I’ve observed that companies with access to complete and accurate sets of data can significantly accelerate process improvement and customer growth.
With real-time, normalized court record data law firms can level-up their business development to more effectively acquire clients and expand share of wallet opportunities.
