on Topics: Future Law | Legal Data API | Legal Tech

The need to access the law in a meaningful way will only increase as continued shifts in the law from state and federal courts, legislatures, and executive branches reshape the collective legal landscape in the United States.
Following our previous Twitter Chats on Open PACER Data, Data Driven Business Development, Litigation Intelligence, and Knowledge Management, UniCourt’s next Twitter Chat will focus on the importance of improving access to the law and the implications it carries for consumers, attorneys, legal tech and the legal industry as a whole, as well as a great number of industries deeply connected to new shifts in the law.
Improving Access to the Law as a Common Good
As a legal tech company dedicated to making legal data more accessible and useful for all, UniCourt firmly believes in the intrinsic value and common good connected to improving access to the law.
To further ensure that everyone has access to the law, UniCourt has committed considerable resources to publishing millions of court cases online for free. In addition to free case pages with basic information on the parties, attorneys, law firms, judges, courts, and case types involved, UniCourt also produces detailed case summaries for trending litigation in the news. You can see some examples of the case summaries we produce on our UniCourt Legal News page.
But enough about us. The topic of improving access to the law has far-ranging reaches, including the foundational precepts enshrined in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, protecting the public’s right to know and access public records, and our rights to freely publish the laws that bind us and bring us together.
Improving access to the law is a common good that must be nurtured, invested in, and, from time to time, defended. We hope you’ll join our Twitter Chat, so we can learn more about why improving access to the law matters to you.
