on Topics: Business Development | Features | Releases

UniCourt is excited to share the release of our newest feature that allows users to export the case details of their search results into an easy to use CSV file. We are making this release as part of our ongoing mission to enhance our user experience and to improve access to legal data, and, more specifically, bulk access to legal data.
With this new release, users will be able to quickly download a CSV file containing the most important information related to each case from their search results, including:
- Case Name
- Case Number
- Case Type
- Case Status
- Filing Date
- Jurisdiction
- Courthouse
- Judges
- Parties
- Attorneys
In addition to these data points and more, we also provide users with a direct link to the case in our application, so they can easily get more information on the dockets and documents available for a case to drill down even further.
How to Export Your Case Search Results
Exporting your case search results into a CSV file is a breeze. All you have to do is follow five easy steps.
Step 1: First and foremost, you need to get the best search results possible. When you are conducting your search, make sure to use the initial search options to clarify whether you are searching for a party, attorney, judge, or docket entry. Once you conduct your search it’s also important to narrow your search results by utilizing UniCourt’s search filters, such as jurisdiction, filing date, case type, and dollar amount.
Step 2: Once you have conducted your search and narrowed down your results to what you are interested in, select the cases you want to export. If you want to export all of the cases from your search results, you do not need to individually select every search result, and can skip to step three.
Step 3: Click on the “Options” dropdown, and then hover over “Export Cases” and choose between “Export Selected Cases” or “Export All Cases” to get information on the cases you want.

Step 4: Name your file and choose between “One Row Per Case” or “One Row Per Party” to format your export. These options are exactly what they sound like. If you want to have each case on a single row in your CSV file with all of the parties included on that single row, choose the “One Row Per Case” option.” However, if you are interested in seeing each party separately listed on its own row, or if there is a large number of parties and it is easier to wade through your results with each party getting its own row, choose the “One Row Per Party” option.

Step 5: The final step is to confirm your case export and download your CSV file from “Exports” once it has been processed. You will also receive an email from UniCourt as soon as your file is ready to download, with a direct link to your file. You can also use this link in the future if you need to download your file again.

Using Case Exports for Business Development and Intelligence
Legal data is a powerful driver of business development and intelligence for legal professionals and our new case export feature provides the quick snapshot needed to identify new potential business opportunities and gain insights on new legal developments and litigation risks.
Legal professionals interested in leveraging legal data for business development can use the steps we highlighted above to quickly pull reports on new cases involving clients they represent. Whether you’re a law firm looking for a report of new cases involving a corporation you represent, a litigation support firm interested in seeing a report of new cases involving a law firm you regularly assist in lawsuits, or even a litigation finance firm wanting to scope out new potential cases to invest in, our new case export feature supplies you with bulk access to legal data at your fingertips.
For legal professionals interested in deriving business intelligence from legal data, our new case export feature also provides easy access to the information you need to make data driven decisions. Take the example of in-house legal professionals. General Counsels and Directors of Legal Operations for legal departments routinely involved in litigation can use our case export feature to quickly run a monthly, weekly, or daily report of the cases involving their corporation. Having this snapshot of the litigation involving their company can help GCs and legal operations more effectively manage their litigation risk, and also ensure that they don’t miss any new cases filed against them.
