UniCourt Employee Spotlight with Jasmine Jonell, Account Manager

API-first approaches to Legal Data as a Service are unlocking the next generation of legal analytics for law firm litigation strategy, business development, and docket management. UniCourt’s APIs provide firms with an open ecosystem for innovation to achieve better outcomes for clients and build more profitable law practices.

We’re excited to share the next interview in our ongoing UniCourt Employee Spotlight series with UniCourt’s Account Manager, Jasmine Jonell

Jasmine is a licensed attorney with experience in the legal and financial industry. Before joining UniCourt nearly a year ago, Jasmine previously worked at Thomson Reuters both as a Client Manager and Account Executive, she managed her own law firm, Law Office of Jasmine Jonell, and worked in Trust Operations at Wells Fargo.

We’re thrilled to have Jasmine as a part of Team UniCourt leading our account management, and hope you enjoy hearing her insights!

UniCourt: Tell us your story. What is your background, and what led you to what you are doing now?

Jasmine Jonell: After practicing law for a short time, I joined Thomson Reuters where I worked as an Client Manager with Anna Hascall as the Account Executive for roughly half of my accounts.

When I heard about the Account Manager position at UniCourt, I wasn’t looking for a job at the time, but it sounded like a unique opportunity with a growing legal tech company. I was excited to be the first Account Manager, to be able to work with Anna, and to get to help shape the future of account management at UniCourt.

UC: What’s an interesting fact about yourself?

JJ: I love houseplants and books. I currently have around 80 houseplant (used to have around 160), and over 1,200 books.

I have always wanted to have my own library since I was young, and I have been slowly building it. It is also organized similar to a library – by genre and then author’s last name. I have autobiographies, biographies, fiction, medicine, law, fitness, health, finance, sales, marketing, personal development, history, religion, sports, and travel.

UC: What do you like most about working at UniCourt?

JJ: The people – customers and colleagues. It is nice to work with colleagues in a collaborative environment where we are all working towards the same goal. It is also very intriguing to learn from our customers about the different and innovative ways they are using the UniCourt Enterprise API and our data.

UC: What do you see as the most fascinating use of UniCourt’s data?

JJ: Litigation strategy is the most fascinating use case I see for UniCourt’s data. One of our most forward-thinking law firm clients handles a high volume of litigation across multiple jurisdictions in state courts.

Through using our data, they are able to seamlessly match the best attorney at their firm to handle upcoming court appearances based on what courthouse the case is at, who the judge is, what type of case it is, and what attorneys are available to represent their clients in court.

UC: How do you see UniCourt’s Enterprise APIs impacting law firms in the future?

JJ: When Westlaw Edge Litigation Analytics was released, I used to tell customers that it was going to be akin to malpractice to not be utilizing data analytics to better serve their clients. I feel the same way about UniCourt’s APIs.

The litigation strategy use case I mentioned above is being implemented by a technology-centered, innovative firm. But why shouldn’t you be taking advantage of the same information you can easily get from legal data APIs?

Not only is it great litigation strategy to know which exact attorneys at your firm have the best experience and availability for any case, but it also leads to getting more favorable outcomes for your clients. More favorable outcomes leads to more repeat business and more referrals, and more law firm business development happening naturally.

Forward-Thinking Litigation Strategy Yields Better Results

As Jasmine shared, law firms using legal data from APIs to shape their litigation strategy not only achieve better outcomes for their clients, but also improve their own future profitability and growth. APIs empower firms to combine litigation intelligence on attorneys, law firms, parties, and judges with their own internal knowledge to build comprehensive litigation strategies, leading to success in and out of the courtroom.
