UniCourt CTO Prashanth Shenoy Recognized by Asia Law Portal in 30 People to Watch in the Business of Law in Asia
The legal innovation community across the globe represents a diverse range of talented individuals focused on solving pain points in the business of law and charting a path forward for the future of law.
With one of the broadest cross-sections of different legal and regulatory regimes in the world, Asia has an incredibly vibrant culture of legal innovation and cross-border collaboration, making it a key player in shaping the future direction of the legal industry.
UniCourt’s CTO and Co-Founder, Prashanth Shenoy, is one of those leaders pushing for innovation in the legal industry in Mangalore, India, and we’re excited to share that he has been recognized by Asia Law Portal as one of the 30 People to Watch in the Business of Law in Asia in 2022.
About the Recognition from Asia Law Portal
Founded in April of 2013, with inspiration from the Inter-Pacific Bar Association annual meeting in Seoul, South Korea, Asia Law Portal was modeled after the World Economic Forum’s blog and social media platforms, and “regularly publishes unique insights by and about Asia’s legal innovators – from lawyers practicing in-house, in private practice or with NewLaw firms, legal marketing and business development professionals, legal technology leaders and startup founders, legal recruiters, law practice management professionals, and law students.”
Asia Law Portal’s mission is to “continue to seek to add to the understanding of the region’s legal markets — and the opportunity it presents to lawyers, legal services sector professionals and the corporate management teams and entrepreneurs operating or seeking to operate within it.”
To highlight the work of legal innovators across Asia, Asia Law Portal created its annual list of the 30 People to Watch in the Business of Law in Asia. This year’s 8th consecutive annual list showcases “some of the top people to follow in the coming year in legal innovation in-house, in law firms, legal startups, legal services organizations, NewLaw firms, and legal technology companies.” As Asia Law Portal notes, “the breadth of depth of talent from throughout the region’s legal innovation community will provide anyone with an interest in legal innovation much to follow in the coming year.”
Why Prashanth was Recognized
Under Prashanth’s leadership, UniCourt has developed industry leading Legal Data APIs rivaling and outpacing offerings from the largest legacy providers like LexisNexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law. Due to his efforts, UniCourt also recently won the American Legal Technology Awards for the Technology category, as well as the LegalTech Breakthrough award for Overall LegalTech Data Solution Provider of the Year.
As one of the key voices within UniCourt advocating for an API-first, Legal Data as a Service (LDaaS) model, Prashanth has pushed the legal innovation envelope further and democratized access to legal data so innovators within legal tech, law firms, NewLaw, in-house legal departments, and others can leverage structured and normalized legal data to build the next generation of legal services and products.
Beyond Prashanth’s vision for democratizing access to legal data, in his role as Chief Technology Officer and head of UniCourt’s operations in Mangalore, India, Prashanth has grown UniCourt into one of the largest, if not the largest, legal tech companies in all of India.
Boasting over 200 employees, including 100+ engineers, Prashanth has turned UniCourt’s Dev Center in Mangalore into a premier destination for engineers who want to build a career in legal tech and get the opportunity to learn, investigate, and become better engineers.
