UniCourt Product Release – New Court Data for Virginia State Courts

Here at UniCourt, we are leading the charge in making court data more organized, accessible, and useful. One of our core values and driving principles is increasing access to justice, and as such, we are committed to improving access to court records from state and federal (PACER) courts across the United States. As a part of this mission, we provide bulk access to the legal data our clients need through our Legal Data APIs and our intuitive, easy to use application. We also provide free access to millions of court cases through our public case pages and free online search engines.

Earlier this month, we announced that we onboarded the Patent Trial and Appeal Board into UniCourt’s legal database, and now we’re excited to announce that we have onboarded Virginia state courts into our system. With this latest addition, our clients can now access court records from federal and state courts in Virginia, including Virginia General District Courts and federal cases from the Eastern District of Virginia, the Western District of Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. 

Virginia’s court system is a unique commonwealth structure, where independent cities and counties have their own court systems. For instance, Roanoke has its own set of county courts and city courts. As such, some cities and counties with the same name (like Roanoke) are listed separately in our database. With this new release, our clients have access to over 120 General District Courts for independent cities and counties across Virginia.

For all of the new Virginia courts in this release, our clients can use our intuitive search and filtering tools and they can access detailed information on the parties, attorneys, and judges involved in litigation, as well as docket information on new filings. Our search function allows for adding in multiple conditions in order to obtain tailored, highly-specific search results. For instance, users can search for a specific attorney, and add a condition to find examples of types of motions they made in front of certain judges. They can also utilize our different types of filters, which can allow them to further narrow results by jurisdiction, filing date, case type, judgment amount, and more.

In addition to our case tracking tools and automated court searches, our clients can also now use UniCourt’s industry leading Legal Data APIs to access Virginia state court data for their business development and intelligence, analytics, machine learning models, process automation, background checks, investigations, and underwriting processes.
