Last month, we recognized the nation’s top attorneys and law firms in the area of patent litigation. Now, we are turning our attention to property litigation, recognizing the top plaintiff’s attorneys and law firms and the top defense attorneys and law firms for YTD 2019. The specific types of litigation include issues like eminent domain, commercial evictions, residential evictions, foreclosures, property fraud, and more.

This month’s top plaintiff attorney is John A. Doonan of Doonan, Graves, & Longoria, LLC. A New York native and his firm’s founding member, Doonan is a former Westchester County prosecutor who handled abuse and neglect cases. After establishing a reputation as a skilled litigator, Doonan left the public sector to launch his own practice in Salem, Massachusetts.
Today, he focuses primarily on supervising foreclosures in Maine and Massachusetts and conducts residential and commercial real estate closings. Doonan is a graduate of Tufts University and Suffolk Law School and is barred in state and federal courts throughout Massachusetts, Maine, and New York.

Because we are considering only private law firms in our analysis and have excluded the Federal Public Defender’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the top Plaintiff’s firm for YTD 2019 is Doonan’s Salem practice, Doonan, Graves, & Longoria. The practice has developed a reputation for proficiently moving cases through foreclosure, bankruptcy, eviction, and sale on behalf of both individuals and business clients. The firm’s three founding attorneys pride themselves on providing clients with a “big firm” feel at a small firm cost, stating that “our streamlined approach to the business of law allows us to outperform competitors.”
In addition to Doonan, Graves, & Longoria, we also recognize other noteworthy property plaintiff firms Steptoe & Johnson LLP, Kimball Tirey and St. John LLP, Gross Polowy LLC, and Cozen O’Connor.
Top Defense Attorney Analytics*

This month’s top defense attorney is Robert T. Mowrey of Locke Lord LLP. A seasoned litigator, Mowrey handles complex business and financial services cases. Specifically, he routinely represents financial institutions in the consumer and financial services industries in class action litigation.
He also regularly litigates cases arising under the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, the Truth in Lending Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and cases involving mortgage fraud, predatory lending, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. Best Lawyers in America named him Lawyer of the Year in 2017 and Chambers USA’s Client Guide of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business has identified him as a preeminent authority in his field.

It should come as little surprise that Locke Lord LLP is the top defense firm this month. A full-service firm with a global reach, Locke Lord has garnered a strong reputation in complex litigation, regulatory work, and transactional matters. The firm’s clients hail from the Fortune 500 to middle-market public and privately-held companies, down to startups and emerging businesses. In particular, the firm has earned recognition as a global leader in the middle-market sector.
In addition to Locke Lord, we also recognize other noteworthy property defense firms McGlinchey Stafford, PLLC, Hirsch Westheimer PC, Akerman LLP, and Greenberg Traurig, LLP.
