About the Bexar County District Courts

The Bexar County District Courts are trial courts of general jurisdiction in Bexar County, the fourth most populous county in Texas. Bexar County has an area of 1,256 square miles and over 2 million residents. San Antonia, the second most populous city in Texas, is located in this county.

The Bexar County Court system’s mission statement is “Build a better community through quality services.”

Texas has a total of 488 district courts, and 27 of those are located in Bexar County. These 61 courts include 14 Civil District Courts, 10 Criminal District Courts, and three Juvenile District Courts.

The Bexar County District Courts operate out of the following locations: the Bexar County Courthouse at 100 Dolorosa, San Antonio, TX 78205, which can be reached by calling (210) 335-2011; the Cadena-Reeves Justice Center, 300 Dolorosa, San Antonio, TX 78205; and the Bexar Juvenile Detention Center, 600 Mission Road, San Antonio, TX 78210.

The Bexar County Civil District Courts

Bexar County has 14 Civil District Courts. These courts hear matters involving civil cases relating to malpractice, breach of contract, damages, personal injury, and multidistrict litigation.

The Civil District Courts are all located in the Bexar County Courthouse.

The Bexar County Criminal District Courts

Bexar County has 10 Criminal District Courts. These Courts have original jurisdiction in all felony criminal cases.

Each of the 10 Criminal District Court Judges is elected to a four year term. The office of Criminal District Courts Administration (CDCA) provides administrative support for these courts, including staff attorneys, visiting judges, statistical reports, and substitution for court personnel when needed.

The Bexar County Criminal District Courts all operate out of the Cadena-Reeves Justice Center.

The Bexar County District Juvenile Courts

The Bexar County Juvenile District Courts hear and decide matters relating to juvenile delinquency, dependency, and juvenile traffic matters. These courts operate out of the Bexar Juvenile Detention Center.

There are three County Juvenile District Courts in Bexar County: the 289th, the 386th, and the 436th.
