Why use UniCourt to search for cases in the Western District of New York?

Locating the court records you need for the Western District of New York from the Public Access to Court Electronic Records, or PACER, can be overpriced, inefficient, and labor-intensive.

UniCourt gives you real-time, bulk access to the entire PACER database of civil and criminal federal court data from the New York Western District through our PACER API. UniCourt gathers court data for all of the new federal civil cases in the Western District of New York and gives you the ability to search all of those new case filings in our CrowdSourced Library™ for free. Unlike UniCourt, PACER charges for every case search you make on their platform, even if your search produced no meaningful results. On top of that, PACER does not limit the cost of each case search you make, meaning you could be charged exorbitant fees for bad searches that return too many results that aren’t helpful.

Additionally, PACER forces users to pay more fees if they want to download the same document multiple times. Not only does PACER charge to download the same document multiple times, but PACER also charges document fees of 10 cents per page, claiming that these fees are capped at $3. However, they can be much higher for access to court transcripts. In contrast, if UniCourt has a document you need from WDNY in our CrowdSourced Library™, you can download it for free as many times as you’d like.

In addition to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, UniCourt gives you access to court records for all of the other U.S. District Courts in New York, including the Northern District of New York, the Southern District of New York, and the Eastern District of New York.
