About the Southern District of Florida

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida has jurisdiction over Broward, Miami-Dade, Highlands, Indian River, Martin, Monroe, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties. The Southern District encompasses about 15,197 square miles in the southern portion of Florida, including the second most populous county in the state, Miami-Dade County, which has approximately 2.7 million residents.

The Southern District currently has eighteen United States District Judges and seventeen United States Magistrate Judges. The Southern District is divided into the following five divisions: the Fort Pierce Division, which covers Highlands, Okeechobee, Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counties; the West Palm Beach Division, which covers Palm Beach County; the Fort Lauderdale Division, which covers Broward County; the Miami Division, which covers Miami-Dade County; and the Key West Division, which covers Monroe County.

The S.D. Fla. has numerous courthouse locations. The Miami Division is located at the following three courthouses: the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr., U.S. Courthouse, 400 North Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33128; the C. Clyde Atkins U.S Courthouse, 301 North Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33128; and the James Lawrence King Federal Justice Building, 99 N.E. Fourth Street, Miami, FL 33132.

The Fort Lauderdale Division is located at the U.S. Federal Building and Courthouse 299 East Broward Boulevard #108, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 and the West Palm Beach Division is located at the Paul G. Rogers Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 701 Clematis Street, Room 202, West Palm Beach, FL 33401. The Fort Pierce Division is located at the Alto Lee Adams, Sr., U.S. Courthouse, 101 South U.S. Highway 1, Room #1016, Ft. Pierce, FL 34950. The Key West Division is located at the Sidney M. Aronovitz U.S. Courthouse, 301 Simonton Street, Key West, FL 33040.
