About the Northern District of Florida

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida has jurisdiction over twenty-three counties in Florida, including the state capital of Tallahassee. The Northern District encompasses both eastern and central time zones, and it serves approximately 1.75 million people in the northern part of the state.

The Northern District currently has eight United States District Judges and nine United States Magistrate Judges. The Northern District is divided into the following four divisions: the Gainesville Division, which covers Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette, and Levy counties; the Panama City Division, which covers Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington counties; the Pensacola Division, which covers Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton counties; the Tallahassee Division, which covers Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla counties.

The N.D. Fla. has four separate courthouse locations. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District Gainesville Division is located at the U.S. Courthouse, 401 SE First Ave., Gainesville, FL 32601. The Pensacola Division is located at the U.S. Courthouse, One North Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32502 and the Tallahassee Division is located at the U.S. Courthouse, 111 N. Adams St., Tallahassee, FL 32301. The Panama City U.S. Courthouse is closed indefinitely due to damage from Hurricane Michael.
