About the Central District of California

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California has jurisdiction over Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties. It serves approximately 19.6 million people, nearly half the population of the State of California, making it the most populous federal judicial district in the U.S.

The Central District currently has thirty-four United States District Judges and twenty-five United States Magistrate Judges. The Central District is divided into the following three divisions: the Eastern Division, which covers Riverside and San Bernardino counties; the Southern Division, which covers Orange County; and the Western Division, which covers Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.

The C.D. Cal. has four separate courthouse locations. The U.S. District Court for the California Central District Southern Division is located at the Ronald Reagan Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 411 West 4th Street, Room 1053, Santa Ana, CA 92701. The George E. Brown, Jr. Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 3470 Twelfth Street Riverside, CA 92501, serves as the courthouse for the Eastern Division of the Central District. The Western Division of the California Central District has two locations: the First Street U.S. Courthouse, 350 W 1st Street, Suite 4311, Los Angeles, CA 90012; and the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 255 East Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

The U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California is E. Martin Estrada, who previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, where he held various leadership positions, including Deputy Chief of the Violent and Organized Crime Section and International Organized Crime Coordinator.
