UniCourt\u2019s CEO and Co-Founder, Josh Blandi is a leading innovator in legal tech and we\u2019re thrilled to share that he has been selected as a finalist for the Innovators of the Year award of the Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards 2022<\/a>. Along with Josh, the other shortlisted finalists for the Innovators of the Year award are Patrice Asimakis of LegalEase Solutions, Mirra Levitt of Priori, Michael Pontrelli of Consilio, and Deana Uhl of FTI Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Winners of the Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards will be announced at an in-person awards ceremony event on February 2, 2022, as part of the 2022 Legalweek New York annual conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The second annual Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards highlights in-house legal departments, law firms, technology providers, and individuals across a broad range of categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Modeled after the California Leaders in Tech Law Awards, the Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards began last year as a way to \u201cexpand the awards nationwide and take a look at the wider variety of work happening in the legal space\u2014not only for the tech industry, but innovation happening in other areas of the law as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n This year\u2019s categories include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Data Privacy & CyberSecurity: <\/strong>Solutions aimed at protecting and securing the data of an enterprise, also including information governance products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Legal Operations: Solutions that primarily support the business functions of corporate legal departments, outside counsel management, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Litigation & Discovery: Solutions involved in litigation processes from beginning to end, including discovery, brief drafting, depositions and court technology, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Research & Data Science: Solutions involved in the attorney and law librarian research process, including case and regulation research, judicial and court analytics, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Practice Management: Solutions that primarily support law firm operations, such as practice and document management, business development, marketing, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Championing Diversity in Tech (Individual): Honoring individuals for outstanding achievements working together to move the diversity needle in the technology sector. Recipients must be from a typically underrepresented background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Innovators of the Year (Individual): Recognizing individual practitioners who have spearheaded initiatives to solve legal problems creatively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lifetime Achievement: Recognizing career achievements in the development and adoption of legal technologies and legal technology companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since 2014, under Josh\u2019s leadership UniCourt has developed world-class APIs used by a diverse range of clients for business development and intelligence, legal analytics, case research, litigation tracking, investigations, due diligence, compliance, underwriting, machine learning models, and process automation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a part of Josh\u2019s strategic vision to provide Legal Data as a Service, he has assembled a diverse, global team based both in the U.S. and India which includes legal professionals, data scientists, physicists, and computer engineers, all working together to unlock the potential of legal data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While legacy legal data providers have often acted as gatekeepers obscuring access to court data and related public datasets, Josh strongly believes in creating an ecosystem that removes the costly and burdensome barriers of data collection and data normalization so that innovators can build the next generation of innovative products and services to move the profession forward and improve access to justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Under Josh\u2019s direction, UniCourt has also leveraged its engineering and development strengths to work on other projects to improve access to the law. In his work across the legal community, Josh has provided free access to UniCourt\u2019s platform to legal aid organizations and public policy researchers to develop in-depth studies on the impact of litigation, such as debt collection litigation on consumers in state courts<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Josh also understands that the future of law depends on educating lawyers and law students about the potential of legal data and the importance of leveraging the legal tech ecosystem as a whole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n To that end, he is a prolific writer and thought leader with multiple publications in ALM and across the legal publishing world.
