{"id":3433,"date":"2021-04-23T05:42:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T13:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/be.unicourt.internal:9878\/site-blog\/?p=3433"},"modified":"2021-11-16T00:47:15","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T08:47:15","slug":"new-state-codes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unicourt.com\/blog\/new-state-codes\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Resource and UniCourt Release New State Codes on the Code Improvement Commission GitHub Repo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Improving access to the law is central to UniCourt\u2019s mission to make legal data more accessible and useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/unicourt.com\/courts\/state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">state<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/unicourt.com\/courts\/federal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal court records<\/a>, to attorney and law firm data, judge data, and official state codes, UniCourt is committed to improving access to the law, and we are thrilled to share new updates on our ongoing work on behalf of Public.Resource.Org for the Code Improvement Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New State Code Releases<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve been busy since our initial launch of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/UniCourt\/cic-beautify-state-codes\" target=\"_blank\">Code Improvement Commission GitHub repo<\/a> last year, where we posted the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/UniCourt\/cic-code-ga\" target=\"_blank\">Official Code of Georgia Annotated<\/a> transformed into beautiful HTML after the <a href=\"https:\/\/unicourt.com\/blog\/scotus-lands-the-plane-but-barriers-to-legal-innovation-persist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landmark SCOTUS ruling<\/a> that neither Georgia nor LexisNexis could claim copyright in the law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since our release of Georgia\u2019s code, we\u2019ve posted new state codes for Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and earlier this month, we also posted the state code for Kentucky.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For each state code we post through the Code Improvement Commission, we provide a state code repo with the standardized HTML code pages, the original state code .rtf files (stored via <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Internet Archive<\/a>), and the code behind the RTF parser we created to transform the official codes from ugly .rtf files into nice-looking, accessible HTML.
