Here at UniCourt, we\u2019re committed to improving access to court records as part of a widespread effort to make government records public records, from trial court cases to appellate precedent nationwide. As we\u2019ve onboarded new courts to provide better access to public data, we\u2019ve expanded our court data coverage<\/a> to include the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the highest court in the federal judiciary and the ultimate \u201ccourt of last resort\u201d for litigants, the U.S. Supreme Court is a vital part of the American court system. Its decisions shape state and local precedent, becoming the \u201claw of the land.\u201d SCOTUS is also the only court specifically prescribed by the U.S. Constitution<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the addition of SCOTUS, we now provide our clients with access to court records from the trial level all the way up the judicial hierarchy, including U.S. District Courts<\/a>, U.S. Bankruptcy Courts<\/a>, and U.S. Courts of Appeals<\/a>. Given the sweeping precedential power of SCOTUS cases, it is vital for us to complete the record for our clients and the public: ensuring that they have comprehensive access to court records naturally includes cases out of the High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, our clients and the public can access records for any Supreme Court case that is publicly available online. SCOTUS hears cases with precedential value, for instance, issues of first impression (those that no court has previously decided), as well as appeals from federal courts of appeal or the highest courts in states. Justiciable issues in the High Court run the gamut from high-stakes antitrust cases to intellectual property matters, issues of criminal justice, and cases of original jurisdiction such as border or maritime disputes, that have not been appealed from other courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with other U.S. appellate courts in our legal database, our clients can now access case information for all available SCOTUS docket entries, as well as information about the attorneys<\/a>, law firms<\/a>, parties<\/a>, and justices involved in each case. In addition to accessing case details, they can also download court documents from the Supreme Court on-demand. And as with other available courts in our application, our clients can now begin leveraging their favorite UniCourt features with SCOTUS court data, such as our intuitive search tools and easy to use filters, case tracking<\/a>, case exports, and automated court searches. They can also take advantage of our Legal Data APIs to download structured, cleaned, and organized court data from the Supreme Court in bulk to build their own analytics and machine learning models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
