Eliminate notifications on irrelevant docket updates by setting Docket Triggers to detect relevant updates<\/p>\n

My last post<\/a> covered how UniCourt can be used to track thousands of on-going cases (PACER or State) with ease<\/a>. This post will touch on how users can manage what information they get notified on when tracking a ton of cases.<\/p>\n

UniCourt reads through docket updates and notifies users only if a trigger match happens. The idea behind letting each user configure their own triggers is that \u2013 A user alone knows what is important and actionable for him\/her and UniCourt provides a way to translate this reasoning of determining what is relevant or not into a formula that can be configured in the form of a trigger. UniCourt also provides tools to improve the trigger formula over a period of time based on what has matched and what hasn\u2019t. Some of the tools provided are covered below.<\/p>\n

1. Creating a Docket Trigger<\/h2>\n

Creating a trigger is as easy as configuring a phrase \u201cMotion to Dismiss\u201d to be detected in a docket update or can be as complex as several words to be detected in a formula that users can create and simulate.<\/p>\n

Creating a simple Trigger<\/h3>\n

The example below shows a trigger name \u201cMotion to Dismiss\u201d which will look for the exact phrase \u201cMotion to Dismiss\u201d appearing anywhere in a the updated docket entry.<\/p>\n

Creating a complex Trigger<\/h3>\n

The example below shows a trigger name \u201cMotion to Dismiss\u201d which will look for the words \u201cMotion\u201d followed by \u201cDismiss\u201d however, not preceded by \u201cOrder Denying\u201d. Simulating the trigger will help explain how this trigger would work. So keep scrolling..<\/p>\n

2. Simulating a Trigger<\/h2>\n

Whenever a trigger match happens on a docket update, the user will get notified by email. So, to check how a trigger would work on live docket updates you can simulate the trigger on sample docket entries.<\/p>\n

Trigger configured below will match the sample docket entry which contains the words \u201cMotion\u201d followed by \u201cDismiss\u201d however does not contain \u201cOrder Denying\u201d as configured in the trigger.<\/p>\n

The same trigger will NOT match the below sample docket entry which contains the words \u201cMotion\u201d followed by \u201cDismiss\u201d preceded by \u201cOrder Denying\u201d. So if you wanted to get notified on docket updates which contain \u201cMotion to Dismiss\u201d but not \u201cOrder Denying Motion to Dismiss\u201d, this is how you would configure and test it.<\/p>\n

3. Get Notified on Trigger Match<\/h2>\n

In addition to receiving email notifications all updates can be viewed in the notifications page where users can filter the notifications for case updates with matched triggers.<\/p>\n
